Speed rules regarding a roof tent

What is the maximum speed if you have a roof tent mounted on your car? A common question as there are many different rules regarding other camping vehicles such as caravans and folding trailers.

The maximum speed for a car with a roof top tent is in many cases the same as for cars without a roof tent. We recommend a maximum speed of approximately 110 km per hour. Also do not exceed (if applicable) the maximum speed recommended by the manufacturer and do not forget to check the manual of the roof rack, here too there are sometimes deviating restrictions.

Maximum speed with a roof tent in other countries
There are countries with higher maximum speeds, for example in Germany the maximum speed for cars with a roof tent is the same as for cars without a roof tent. But before you drive full throttle on the Autobahn, it is advisable to consult the manual of the roof tent / roof carriers in advance. An advisory speed is given here. Furthermore, it is mainly a matter of common sense and usually you should not want to drive much faster than 120 km / h – if permitted and responsible of course.

In short, traveling with a roof tent is wonderful, not only camping, but also the journey itself is a pleasure 🙂
